Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Victor Ortiz, billed as Star Power, was a championship fight for Ortiz's WBC Welterweight title. The bout was held on September 17, 2011, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada and televised via HBO PPV. As a part of a split-site doubleheader, the broadcast also featured the Saul Alvarez vs. Alfonso Gomez Light Middleweight championship bout taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Floyd Mayweather won the bout with a controversial knockout in the fourth round. After Ortiz caught Mayweather in the ropes and head-butted him, the referee Joe Cortez called time-out and deducted a point. Then, Ortiz apologized to Mayweather by kissing him tenderly on the cheek, and Cortez resumed the fight. Ortiz and Mayweather came together and touched gloves. As they separated, Mayweather surprised Ortiz with a left hook and right straight. Ortiz was knocked down and counted out by Cortez.
According to Ortiz, "I was called to break by the referee and I obeyed exactly as I was told. And then, boom, he blindsided me." When asked to comment on the ending of the fight, Mayweather responded by saying: "we touched gloves, we back to fighting, left hook, right hand, and that's all she wrote. **
