Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Victor Ortiz, billed as Star Power, was a championship fight for Ortiz's WBC Welterweight title. The bout was held on September 17, 2011, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada and televised via HBO PPV. As a part of a split-site doubleheader, the broadcast also featured the Saul Alvarez vs. Alfonso Gomez Light Middleweight championship bout taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Floyd Mayweather won the bout with a controversial knockout in the fourth round. After Ortiz caught Mayweather in the ropes and head-butted him, the referee Joe Cortez called time-out and deducted a point. Then, Ortiz apologized to Mayweather by kissing him tenderly on the cheek, and Cortez resumed the fight. Ortiz and Mayweather came together and touched gloves. As they separated, Mayweather surprised Ortiz with a left hook and right straight. Ortiz was knocked down and counted out by Cortez.
According to Ortiz, "I was called to break by the referee and I obeyed exactly as I was told. And then, boom, he blindsided me." When asked to comment on the ending of the fight, Mayweather responded by saying: "we touched gloves, we back to fighting, left hook, right hand, and that's all she wrote. **
Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye. Klitschko won with a unanimous points victory (117–109, 118–108, 116–110), successfully defending the IBF, IBO, WBO and The Ring Heavyweight titles, as well as winning the WBA (Super) Heavyweight title.
The fight was similar to Klitschko's 2008 win against Sultan Ibragimov with Wladimir winning nearly every round, most were won only by his jab and only occasionally unleashing his right hand on his opponent. Haye won only two rounds because he managed to out punch Wladimir in rounds 3 and 12 but was unable to keep it up to win more rounds, or catch Wladimir on the chin. Neither fighter seemed to want to trade punches but Klitschko was content with that and utilized his jab to keep Haye at a comfortable distance.
Haye revealed afterwards that he had a broken toe on his right foot, and claimed that it had hindered his game plan for the fight as he felt he was unable to jump out at Wladimir like he had previously in his career. Despite this Klitschko claims that Haye was unable to fight because he was just too good for him.**
Williams Vs Lara. July 9, 2011, Paul Williams fought in a light middleweight contest in Atlantic City against former Cuban amateur sensation Erislandy Lara.

However, the judges awarded Williams with a narrow majority decision, a highly controversial verdict that ultimately led to the suspension of the three judges by the New Jersey Athletic Control Board.**

Green Vs. Tarver - Green next challenged semi retired actor/commentator and former light heavyweight world champion 42 year old Antonio Tarver for Green's IBO Crusierweight strap. Both fighters are coming off clear unanimous decision victories, with Tarver beating lowly ranked Nagy Aguilera 16-4-0 and Green with a win over NABO and USBA Cruiser champ BJ Flores 24-0-1. The fight is taking place in Greens backyard at the Entertainment Center, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 20 July.
Tarver defeated Green by TKO at the completion of the ninth round. Green's brother Brendan and trainer Angelo Hyder entered the ring to call off the fight as the bell rung, following sustained attack from Tarver late in the round, leaving Green dazed and unable to defend himself.
Tarver had already put Green down in the second round and generally dominated the fight. Green struggled to combat the southpaw's style and power. Tarver suggested he was prepared to offer a rematch. Green has not immediately accepted and it is expected he will consider retiring for a second time. It was the first occasion Green had ever been stopped in his 35 fight career.**
